The Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine announced the conclusion of the operation to make the courtyard ready for Arbaeen, its website reported.
Carpets have been laid out at the courtyard and books of supplication have been placed on the shelves, it said.
The courtyard, located in the northern part of the mausoleum, has been designated as a place for pilgrims to rest and pray.
Earlier, Ahmed Safi, the custodian of the shrine, visited the courtyard and was briefed on the operation and preparations for Arbaeen.
During the visit, he ordered expediting the activities to make the courtyard ready for Arbaeen in time.
The courtyard, which is 20,000 square meters in area is expected to accommodate 60,000 pilgrims.
The Arbaeen mourning ceremony is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
It marks the 40th day after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Imam Hussein (AS). This year’s Arbaeen falls on August 25.
